Sculptor James LaCasse

One of my favorite artists at the art festival for 2006 is James LaCasse. He had quite an array of sculpture spread out on his corner of the street. Probably the first one to catch my eye was Adam's Apple. It was a man trapped inside of an apple and had either merged or transformed the apple . The name as much as the sculpture itself intrigued me. Upon continued exploration of the works, a continuing theme of human passion and torment emerged. The more I looked the more intrigued I became.

Finally, I noticed the sculptor himself, off in a corner of the corner, carefully working on the wax (?) for his next work. I wanted to speak with him. Talk with him about his work. As I approached, another interested party began asking him questions. The artist answered, almost wearily, probably having been asked and answered the question a million times already. I decided against my approach. I walked a short distance away and continued to take in the powerful images. I saw the artist's head turn in my direction. I looked over, and our eyes met and locked for a moment. I felt we had made a connection without words. It was enough to satisfy the moment.

When I got home I tried to find the artist's name in the directory, as my mind had been clouded/crowded (?) by the images that afternoon. I couldn't find a good enough reference to identify him. I went googling with the one other piece of information: Adam's Apple.
